Marcia Ryder
PhD, MS, RN, FNAP



President



Marcia is an independent collaborative researcher investigating in vitro, in vivo, and clinical questions in the specialties of medical biofilm-related infection and vascular access. Her vast clinical experience includes critical care, post anesthesia recovery, and nutrition support. She is a past president of AVA, chair of VAPSI, past president of the AVA Foundation for Patient Safety, and a distinguished fellow of the National Academy of Practices. She has widely shared her expertise nationally and internationally.



Amit Bahl
MD



Treasurer



Amit is a board-certified emergency medicine physician for the past 14 years with subspeciality expertise in point of care ultrasound, is the medical director of the vascular access team at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He has authored numerous publications and presented nationally and internationally in the field of vascular access.



Reid Nishikawa
PharmD, FASPEN, FCSHP



Director



Reid has been caring for patients requiring long-term parenteral nutrition (PN) for 39 years with a focus on improving quality of life as well as decreasing the incidence and risk of complications in the long-term PN patient population. Vascular access interests have included implementation of interventions to reduce infectious and mechanical complications in the long-term PN patients. His research interests have paralleled this clinical focus: Recipient of the ASPEN Distinguished Nutrition Support Pharmacist Award, Recipient of the ASPEN Stanley Serlick Award for promoting patient safety, Recipient of the Oley Foundation Nan Couts Award for patient advocacy, and Member of the ASPEN Parenteral Nutrition Safety Committee which publishes guidelines for clinicians managing PN patients.



Gregory Schears
MD



Director



Greg is a pediatric intensivist/ anesthesiologist has had an interest in improving vascular access for 35 years. He directs the nurse staffed PICC team at the Mayo Clinic, member of the Mayo Clinic CLABSI Interest Group, has been the treasurer for AVA and is a requested speaker on vascular access topics at national and international conferences.



Steven Johnson
DO



Director



Steven is a board-certified emergency medicine physician with a subspecialty in emergency ultrasound. He is currently completing an additional fellowship in critical care at the University of Southern California. He has become particularly interested in vascular access and patient safety over the course of his career and has authored multiple publications regarding advanced vascular access and peripheral catheter complications.



Beth Gore
PhD



Director



Beth is a national patient safety advocate, author and speaker who represents patients through patient associations, serving on boards, and being a voice of the patient on national committees and task forces with over a decade of direct vascular access focus. She has a PhD in Training and is a mother to six children with special needs, including a son who lives with a central line for lifetime treatment. She also serves as the CEO of the Oley Foundation.
